The origins, scope, and public process behind the regional water study.
In April 2008, leaders of the City of Tucson and Pima County began a joint water and wastewater infrastructure, supply, and planning study in response to long-term growth and water-resource pressures.
Phase I established a shared factual basis about water infrastructure, reclaimed water systems, and available supplies. Phase II assembled policy goals and recommendations to support integrated and sustainable water planning.
A 12-person oversight committee drawn from city and county advisory and planning bodies conducted the process in public. The committee held 36 open meetings and concluded its work following the Phase II report in early 2010.
